Here’s my review on Cro-Mag!

—First Install Thoughts—

Main MenuWhen I first installed Cro-Mag Rally, I was pretty amazed by the graphics level, but not Settingseverything is good with great graphics because it will eat your battery up pretty fast; be prepared to plug your device in if you plan on playing a couple races. It is a great game that is pretty easy if you start out on “easy”, but as you progress you can upgrade yourself to higher skill levels. So after getting 1st in my very first race I thought, “Hey might as well just go ahead and put myself on the highest skill level”, well let’s just say after about a month or two I just put myself on that level! But after my first race, I was confused because I was brought back to the main menu. It was confusing because I was used to having my accomplishments and time recorded. And sometimes with other apps that wasn’t such a good thing but I would have liked to been able see what my time was and have that recorded, but it was still a great first impression! Also the settings menu could really have used some improvements; maybe some custom buttons and a background to match the rest of the app and to also not remind me of a white shirt after it had a bleach wash! Other than that bleached menu, I really have to say it is pretty upfront and easy to use, but again a theme would have been nice! So those were my thoughts after I first used the Cro-Mag application!

—Controls and Walk Though—

Choose your mapWhen you press the play button you have the options to select either a race or a gather. A Race isChoose your car what you would use to race and the gather button allows you to practice and get used to the controls! So when you press play, you will have to select a place to race; as you can see in the picture I have choose the “Glaciers” area. After you have selected an area, you just have to tap the picture to advance to the next menu which as you can see, it’s the select a vehicle menu which I have chosen the “Geode Cruiser”, which is what I will use to race this track. Each vehicle has a special talent which can be identified at the bottom of the screen. The stats are measured with bones lined up like a pictograph. It is measured out of eight bone. The categories are “Speed”, “Acceleration”, “Traction”, and “Suspension”. This vehicle has what I have identified as good stats for this track I will be racing it on. The last thing you’ll need to select is a boy or a girl racer, so make your pick; it makes no real difference to your racing abilities!

Action Shots:

Action Shot 1 Action Shot 2

Action Shot 3As you can see in the photos above, there are some really cool controls that come with Cro-Mag! The double sided spear on the left is your forward and backward button that you need to keep you finger on the top “F” to drive. You turn by tilting the device to the right or left depending on where you need, or want, to go! You also need to collect the items that are along the track, you can use these as an advantage in the race. The lightning bolts allow you to go faster “as seen in last picture”; the bones and grease droplets you can throw at your opponents by hitting the up arrow on the bone to the right of the screen!

Pros:

  • Great graphics
  • Great tacks and vehicles
  • Easily used
  • Great for all ages
  • REALLY FUN

Cons:

  • Eats battery life
  • No actual levels
  • Plain settings menu
  • Could use an expert skill level

So with both the pros and cons, I would give it 4 out of 5 stars!
