You hear the buzz?  It’s all over the place; is Apple going to update their computer line this month?  If so, there are a lot of speculations going around as to what the update will, and should include.  In this article, I will briefly talk about each product line, and what I would expect to see.

The MacBook.  Very popular, budget friendly, and it includes iLife and Snow Leopard.  It’s by no means a MacBook Pro, but a great beginner’s Macintosh computer.  As far as updates, I don’t expect much if anything.  Maybe a norm for 4GB of RAM instead of 2, drive sizes of 250 and 320, and I don’t expect any change in the 2.26GHz Intel Core  Duo that is used.  Battery life, connectivity, case, I don’t expect to see much.

MacBook Pro.  Apple is concerned about the MacBook Pro  It’s been about 8 months since the last update, and consumers are expecting another update with better processors.  I just bought one of these about 3 weeks ago – the 13 inch 2.53GHz configuration.  Currently, there is a 2.26 and a 2.53GHz model available.  I think Intel Core i5 chips will be integrated, and the Core 2 Duo will be left for the MacBook and MacBook Air.  I also think that an Intel Core i7 may be available in the 7 inch high spec MacBook Pro, but who knows.  As far as other upgrades, I don’t foresee much.  Maybe a blu ray optical drive, but who needs it?  Apple may add a 6GB option for the RAM, but it really isn’t necessary yet.  Hard drive sizes are good -250, 320, 500, 128SS and 256SS.

MacBook Air: AKA testing grounds for the iPad.  I think that Apple will keep this model alive, and give it the much needed upgrades.  First off, the case needs an upgrade.  The bezel will probably be replaced to the black solid glass bezel like the MacBook Pro, and the track pad will probably get the MacBook Pro’s button as well instead of the buttons bellow the trackpad.  I doubt connectivity will change, but they may surprise us.  I do think, however, that the processor line will change.  I’d expect the 2.26GHz and 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo models to be integrated, RAM to be boosted to 4GB, and maybe the disk size to be tweaked up a little bit.

iMac.  Well, first off, the display issues need to be fixed.  After this is done and things are back on track, I would expect further RAM and hard drive options, as well as a Core i7 available on the highest end model, and the Core i5 closer to the base unit.  Aside from this, I don’t think a whole lot is in store the iMac.

iPhone OS 4.0?  We may hear about it.  I’ll have another article up soon about that, so be sure to check back!

In the bag, I think Apple is trying to keep their products updated, and I think they’re doing a fine job with it.  I look forward to updates, and maybe price changes (not much) in the upcoming weeks.  Check back after the event to see what happened, and what may be in store for Apple inc. in the future.

  1. Maybe they will announce iLife 2010 also.

aside from the lack op the button under the trackpackpad i expect the new low voltage processors for the Macbook Air to bring the battery performance in line with other Macbook and Macbook Pro models and a build-to-order option for 3G cardslot. A black & glass bezel like the one on the glossy screen versions of the Macbook Pro is not likely to surface at the Macbook Air as it weights more.
