It has been a while since the last iPod Classic upgrade…what happened? I have a feeling that Apple will do some pretty major upgrades to the Classic this year. Some possible upgrades may include a camera on the back, bigger display, bigger hard disk space, and thinner.

Although the iPod Classic isn’t for me, it overwhelms everyone across the globe including myself with it’s  160 gb hard drive. I’m expecting good upgrades for the next one to come out. Post your thoughts below for what you think may be included for the next model.

Honestly, 160GB for a device with such a tiny screen seems ridiculous. And so is increasing the hard drive space.

I think a bigger screen is what it’s in need of. Oh, and possibly non-encrypted firmware, so I can install Rockbox on the thing? I would so buy it then.

If you’re referring to the 80GB iPod known as the “iPod classic”, then you simply can’t install Rockbox on it. On the other hand, if it was a 5th-generation iPod (sometimes referred to as the “iPod video”, but never marketed as “iPod classic”), then I know some people who have these with Rockbox.

The iPod’s equalizer is unbelievably poorly designed. Rockbox features a 5-band parametric equalizer, pre-cut, and separate tone (bass and treble) controls… that’s my main reason for using it. I’ve used it without issue on a Sansa e250 and I would still be using it if it weren’t for my Sansa’s damaged scroll wheel and screen.
