Yes, we know, we’ve been out for over a week. We all know this was a very impromptu upgrade, but it was for the best of it.

During that week, we were upgrading Tech Cores to a brand new (and rather secure) VPS. With this new VPS, or virtual private server, it allows us to have full control over the server, but with that responsibility, we need to make sure Tech Cores is secure but also set up correctly; that was the reason why it took a little more than a week.

And I’m proud to announce that Tech Cores is a part of some of the securest tech blogs out there. Now I have to say, I haven’t set up many servers like a VPS before; this is in fact our first VPS for Tech Cores and the first one I’ve ever set up (even though I’ve set up many physical servers). For all you tech savvy people, it took more than a week because Tech Cores’s server was set up from the ground up and it’s even running its own DNS server (and mail server for that matter). Nothing is shared on this (virtual private) server anymore. When you’re staring at a screen like this every day for a little more than a week, things can get a tad bit boring. Setting up BIND, Postfix, MySQL, Dovecot (didn’t use Exim this time — wanted to change it up), SpamAssassin, Apache (even though I initially planned on using Nginx (phonetically speaking, “Engine X”)), and many more technologies was quite boring in that small terminal window. But thankfully, it’s all set up now.

So to stop boring you with the technical details, Tech Cores is back up and never been better! From the people who I have asked, they did say that Tech Cores seemed faster. InMotion Hosting, where we were hosting before, seemed that that were overselling their servers. When the server has ~50GBs of RAM and only has 300MB left, that says something right there. As a server guy myself, I think they might be hosting some more plans on that server (like their VPS plan(s)) to occupy that much RAM. The server’s load averages are tad bit high, and honestly, I’m glad to leave ‘em.

After having some issues with the DNS configuration, we’re finally up! If you have any problems with the site, feel free to drop us a note via the contact form.

I've been fascinated with technology my entire life. I started to pick up on aspects of web development (HTML and CSS) a long time ago and started to get into "real" programming soon after. Right now, you can catch me working with Objective C, making iPhone apps along with system administration, and security. I'm also interested in graphic design, having designed the entire Tech Cores theme myself.

Yeah it seems A LOT faster.

W00t! Well, it should seem WAY more faster now because I just did one more thing to the site. :P

Could be the quickest tech site ever! :D
