App Fanatic Fridays, or AFF, is a weekly blog post about the top application on the Apple App Store for either the iPhone/iPod touch or the iPad. Todays post is going to be taken from the Tops list for the iPhone/iPod touch, an application called Angry Birds.

Can you believe it!?!?! The pigs stole the birds eggs! How could they? Well join the force on getting the eggs back, in the not so ordinary way. We aren’t asking for the eggs back we are launching other birds at the pigs, avoiding the obstacles, trying to kill them. Not the most ordinary idea, but who doesn’t like to think, or play, outside the box sometimes…or all the time!

So you start out with a line of birds, a slingshot, and pigs protected by objects made of various materials, hence varying in strength. This can only go one way… As the first bird jumps into the sling shot you are able to customize its speed and angle of projection by slinging your finger back, forth, up, and down. By releasing your hold on the bird the sling shot does its thing and then is launched in the direction, hopefully towards the target object… As you can see in the screenshot to the right there may be objects protecting the pigs from the birds. This is when it gets challenging, you have to find a way to either have to objects fall on the pigs or a way to destroy the obstacles and then the pigs.

Overall it is a fun and “out of the box” way to pass the time. One of the best and simplest applications on the gaming section of the App Store, and indeed it has earned its way to the top of the iTunes Apple Store list.
