Introduction
So as many of you know Apple had a keynote discussing their iPod line and releasing brand new iPod’s. They also had Epic Games (People who make gears of war) announce their new engine for iOS gaming which is called the Unreal Engine. Now this new engine was used in a demo. They implemented the new technology on a game called Epic Citadel! It is very fascinating and the textures are fantastic!
The Requirements
The first version of the game was limited to iOS 4.0+. They recently had an update which let iOS 3.1.3 and iOS 3.2.1+ be compatible with the awesome game. Now I have an iPod Touch 3rd generation and it wasn’t laggy at all but, no games are really that bad on my iPod. The game shouldn’t lag for anyone because the graphics are pre-rendered and there are no characters in the game.
The Future of Unreal Engine 3
As for all the games and apps in the app store the future lays in the developers. There are developer kits on the epic games website. I hope to see developers make really good games possibly Gameloft could improve their games. This engine is going to revolutionize mobile gaming forever.
The Graphics and Controls
These graphics in the game are absolutely stunning, It is pretty comparable to a console game. The textures don’t really slow anything down. The controls are so intuitive as well, you simply swipe to turn or use the right joystick. The left joystick is for moving the character. Now the shadows are quite well done as you can see below, the tent is effected by the sun as it would in real life.
Screenshots

It's not close to being comparable to a console game. But I must say that these are great for being on an iPhone/iPod touch.
