I guess there are different definitions of "tablet".If you consider the iPod touch a "mini tablet" and the iPad a "full size tablet" without marketing these things as a laptop replacemet, then I agree: Windows per se is not a good OS for them. But when I envision a tablet, I imagine something akin to the iPad, possibly a tad bigger, that acts as a laptop replacement. Ever used an HP TouchSmart convertible laptop? Windows is quite usable on it, albeit not as smooth and with a clunky brick form factor hardware-wise.Form versus function. I want a powerful handheld computer that lets me get more work done as opposed to a sexier entertainment device.

I've added a new answer for the poll. ;)

I want something with an x86 processor and Windows as a base. (I don't mind crazily-skinned finger-friendly UIs as long as Windows is at its core -- that's the Windows NT kernel, not Windows CE.)

If it weren't hot pocket in my mouth I would spit it out, in that "NO WAY" fashion, Windows 7/Vista/XP as well OS X are not optimized for the tablet fashion, they are meant for touch-pad/mouse use, just like most modern programs. If you are going to have a tablet you need to be able to say this device is going to have this software so developers can correctly develop their apps. Don;t get me wrong I LOVE Windows 7 and OS X but in no productive way would I want them on a tablet PC. You also brought up the "finger-friendly" GUI option, but it comes back to developers not knowing how their software is going to be used, Tablet or Desktop, so they know when to use that finger friendly GUI. Its like putting Android on 10 gazillion different phones, it can't be tuned in the way that iOS has for the iPhone and iPad, as it defiantly shouldn't be used on tablets, it wasn't made for that, Just like Windows wasn't made for the tablet device.

(picks up iPad) I think I'm good!
