Up until this point in time all videos that you wanted to watch on your iPad had to be in a certain format that Apple uses called “.m4v”. If your video was not setup in this format you were out of luck! But not anymore, thanks to the VideoLAN team who have developed and produced a version of there amazing cross platform desktop software from the iPad for free. Getting movies onto the iPad indeed takes one or two more steps but they are not only simple but they are much easier than having to convert your video in to another format.

Apple allows for the syncing specific application on your device, if the developer has allowed it, so if you want to transfer documents in to Pages for iPad or some similar case like this one. To be able to do this all you are going to need to do, beyond the obvious steps of plugging in your iPad, you are going to need to left click your devices icon or name in the left sidebar of iTunes. From there you should be able to go to the Applications tab and scroll down to the File Syncing options that are going to make VLC possible. Then you can just sync and enjoy your movies in what ever format you want!

Almost every time I help somebody with, or fix, their computer I get the same question how did you learn all of this? Well, that starts us off. I am a self taught graphic designer, technology enthusiast, social media junky, and die hard (yet not obsessive) Apple fanboy. I am the proud owner of many iDevices and soon enough a MacBook Pro. One of my favorite pass times is hang out with friends so, when I am not typing out the latest news in the tech world,I am most likely hanging out with friends either in person or on Facebook, Twitter, or now Google+.
