*Conner Schaak will do the review of the iPhone 4 version soon. Stay tuned for it!

*Also want to say thanks to Default Case for sending me these cases for review.

Default Case is a case company that started when they’ve heard about the iPhone 4′s antenna problem. When they heard about it, they decided to make these cases. Now, what’s interesting is that they are selling this for one cent. Now, if you’re like me and asked, “Why are they one cent?” Well, here is their reason:

Traditional advertising is so… traditional. The normal thing to do when you’re in the middle of a major product launch is to go visit some advertising agency on Madison Avenue, hand them a canvas bag full of cash, and say, “Go find us some customers.” From the beginning, we decided that DefaultCase is going to do everything differently. So, we instead took the majority of our advertising budget and re-allocated it towards subsidizing the cost of your DefaultCase – hence, 99.9% off for you.

Design

When you see the Default Case, you’ll notice right away that it has a very nice perforated back. According to Default Case, the perforated back is for improving signal”, but I didn’t notice any difference in signal strength. When you first hold the case, you’ll notice that it has a soft-touch coating on the back. I personally like this because it provides a good grip on the phone and it doesn’t attract fingerprints.

Probably the coolest part of this case is that this is an attention grabber! For example: People would usually ask me where I got the case from a great distance. The color that got the most feedback is the orange. The orange Default Case is really really fluorescent and vibrant. It’s so vibrant that when I stare at it for a couple of seconds, my eyes would hurt.

One little thing I noticed was that some parts of the case aren’t finished. For example: the picture on the left shows that there’s some “flash” on the case and unfinished painting.

Durability & Protection

The main purpose of a case is to protect your super expensive gadget from drops and scratches. Does the Default Case actually protect your device? Well, it does protect from scratches. Unfortunately, it won’t protect drops from your ear, or dropping it from the Empire State Building. One little side note is that the case does provide a little lip around the screen, so you can lay the phone face down, with out worrying about scratching your phone.

The durability of the case could improve. On the orange Default Case, the bottom left corner is starting to lose its color and it’s soft touch finish. Also, there’s a black ring that’s developing around the lip of the case. Thankfully, you won’t get that with the silver case.

Is it worth it?

Overall, the Default Case is my favorite case. If you are a person that needs a lot of drop protection, you should consider something else than this; if you are like me and demand a stylish design, go ahead and get it!
