Over the December 11-12 weekend, many were in their homes waiting for the snow to stop. Sadly Gawker seems to have let their guard down.

Yesterday, a hacker group released 541,376 commenter account passwords to the public via the popular torrent tracker, The Pirate Bay.

A few tools have been released to the public to figure out if your account was hacked. One that I find to be the easiest is Duo Security’s website, http://didigetgawkered.com.

Even if your account was not in the released batch, I suggest that this is a good time to remind everyone to CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. I will soon be releasing a good guide to explain how to make a very good, very unguessable password. But until then remember, don’t have one password for everything.
