Have you every wanted a game with really good graphics on your iPhone, iPod touch and/or iPad? Well, you have gotten your wish. Infinity Blade is a game made by Chair and published by Epic Games, who also made Gears of War, Bulletstorm, and now Infinity Blade! So like I said in the title, this game is powered by the Unreal Engine, which creates insane graphics and textures. So now that you know what the game is powered by, let’s get to the review!
Storyline
As you know, games with good storylines succeed. Well, would a 3rd-person game such as Infinity Blade succeed, although it is on a device not made for gaming? Maybe. When you first start up the game, you get a little intro video showing an unknown knight(you) and a mysterious lord or emperor. They talk in gibberish, but luckily there is subtitles. You fight the God-king and he ends up killing you, resulting in execution. The game then fast forwards to 20 years and you soon battle other enemies, creatures, random things, etc… At first, I did not even understand what was happening, as I know most others will think the same. Like I said, when you first open this application up, it shows a little intro and then it throws you into the middle of a conversation, so there isn’t any “true” background info given. But as I played longer, I began to finally realize what was going on. In the game itself, you get XP for every battle you win against your opponent. And yes, there is a ranking system that goes on through the campaign. It doesn’t take very long to rank up, which can be good and bad, but just like any other game that uses this system, the higher you get, the longer it takes to level up.
Throughout the game, you can unlock items for your character, such as a new shield, new sword, and a new helmet. The game also has challenges that you can complete for more XP. This is good because you actually have a good reason to play this game! The challenges are ported from Game Center so you’re friends can find out that you defeated an enemy under 60 seconds ![]()
Controls
The controls in this game are extremely easy. You simply swipe your finger across the screen to slash your enemy or parry with your sword . To use your shield, you simply hold down the “shield” icon at the bottom of the screen. There is also two dodge buttons on the bottom left & right. You use these buttons to dodge any incoming hits that your opponent releases. Now there is combos and finishing moves you can do, but they’re nothing too great. You must also know that timing is the key to defeating your enemies in this game. Always keep your eyes opened because the enemies will attack out of nowhere sometimes. You can consider the controls in this game or more of a “button mashing” idea because when your opponent is dazed from a nasty hit, you unleash chaos on him/her because you swipe your fingers like there is no tomorrow ![]()
Overall Thoughts
Unfortunately, there is no multiplayer for this game, yet! In the next update, there is supposed to be a lot of new things coming out, such as new weapons, armor, opponents, a multiplayer, and more great things. This games costs $5.99 in the Appstore. As of now, I give this game a 9/10 because of it stunning graphics and fun gameplay. I also want to say that I am running this game on an iPod touch 4, so gameplay might be different for other devices, such as lag and graphics. I hope this review helped you make your mind whether you want this game or not, but in the end it depends on how much money you have left on your iTunes account…
Until next time, this has been Scotty Hallberg giving you my thoughts, on Infinity Blade.
